Dr. Ronnie Wolfe
The woman at the
well was not ignorant of the coming of a Messiah. She understood, having
some Jewish training, no doubt, through her family, that a True Messiah
was to come. So, she said, "I know that Messias cometh, which is called
Christ."
Certainly Messiah does come, and He is here at this
time in this verse. Jesus Himself stood in the synagogue in His hometown
of Nazareth and read from the scriptures the prophecy of the coming of
the Messiah and said in "Luke 4:21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. The
ears of the hearers there were not only shocked, but they were angry
that Jesus expressed that He was that Messiah. -- And all they in the
synagogue, . . . when they heard these things, were filled with
wrath, And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto
the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast
him down headlong (Luke 4:28-29).
No less was this woman surprised to learn that Jesus was that Messiah and expressed that when he is come, he will tell us all things (25); and certainly He did tell her all things that ever I did (4:29).
Yes,
Jesus is the Messiah, and He has come. He has come to die for sinners,
to set the captives free, to call His sheep, save His sheep, secure His
sheep, and has resurrected to make intercession for His sheep.
One day we, his sheep, will be with him where He is. That will be a glorious day, will it not?
